Corporate World is one of the most fascinating unreleased albums in the entire Prince and Paisley Park story — the studio album by The Time that Warner Bros halted before release. This digital download brings together the original Corporate World tracklist as it stood before the project was reshaped, giving collectors access to an album that officially never came out in this form.
The Story Behind the Album
Corporate World was largely a Prince production for The Time. But Warner Bros stopped the release, feeling that the other members of the band should be brought in to contribute. Following a meeting with Prince, band members Jesse Johnson, Monte Moir, Terry Lewis, and Jimmy Jam began contributing songs without Prince's input — and the resulting, reworked album became The Time's fourth record, Pandemonium.
This makes Corporate World a genuine "what could have been" — a snapshot of the album in its original Prince-driven form before the band reshaped it.
Where the Songs Went
The tracks on Corporate World scattered across several major releases. Three were kept for Pandemonium: Donald Trump (Black Version), Data Bank, and My Summertime Thang. Four others became The Time's contributions to Prince's Graffiti Bridge soundtrack: Love Machine, Shake!, The Latest Fashion, and Release It. Murph Drag later surfaced on the NPG Ahdio Show #3 in 2001 but was never available as a separate track. Remarkably, only Nine Lives and the title track Corporate World have never been released in any form at all — making this collection the only way to hear them.
