David Bowie & John 'Hutch' Hutchinson — Lover To The Dawn CD
The Demo Tape That Started Everything
In April 1969, before Space Oddity became a cultural landmark, David Bowie sat in his new Foxgrove Road flat in Beckenham with his Feathers partner John "Hutch" Hutchinson and recorded a ten-track acoustic demo tape that would shape one of the most important albums of his career. This CD preserves that recording — professionally restored and presented for the first time in genuinely listenable quality.
What You Are Hearing
Eleven tracks including the original Space Oddity demo, early versions of Janine, An Occasional Dream, and Conversation Piece, plus Cygnet Committee with entirely different lyrics under its original title Lover To The Dawn. Also included are Feathers staples Ching-A-Ling, Love Song, When I'm Five, and Life Is A Circus.
A raw, intimate window into Bowie's creative process at the exact moment his career was about to change forever.
The Restoration
Sourced from two separate bootleg sources and restored using professional audio software by JimmyShelter in 2014 — correcting severe speed fluctuations and audio degradation while preserving the authenticity of the original performance. Minor imperfections remain, as is the nature of material recorded on a domestic tape machine in a Beckenham flat in 1969.
