Milk & Honey — originally titled Beautiful, Loved & Blessed — is the unreleased debut studio album by Támar Davis. Recorded between 2005 and early 2006 with Prince as co-writer, co-producer, and primary instrumentalist throughout, the album was scheduled for release in Spring 2006, promoted through advertising included with Prince's 3121, and supported by joint television appearances. Then it was delayed. Then delayed again. Then ultimately cancelled.
A small number of copies surfaced in Japan — and those rare physical CDs now sell for hundreds of dollars when they appear at all. This digital download gives serious Prince collectors access to the full unreleased album without the eye-watering physical copy prices.
The Story Behind the Album
Prince personally championed the project. He performed as Támar Davis's guitarist on her 2006 tour, building serious anticipation for the album. The CD included a video of Prince's 2006 BRIT Awards performance where Támar appeared as a backing vocalist. All tracks were written and produced by Prince and Támar together, with Prince handling the majority of the instrumentation. Contributions from Michael B. and Sonny T. appear on some tracks, with C.C. and Joshua Dunham credited on others.
The project went through several title changes — Wild Child first, then Beautiful Loved & Blessed, before finally settling as Milk & Honey. Following Támar's departure from Prince in late 2006, she released a digital EP Prelude to Támar featuring three tracks from the album — Holy Ground, Sunday In The Park, and All I Want Is U — but the full album itself never reached the public.
Where the Songs Went
Some tracks did surface elsewhere. Beautiful Loved And Blessed appeared in revised form on Prince's 3121 album and as a promotional single. Holla & Shout was released as a promotional track. Kept Woman was re-recorded for Bria Valente's Elixer album. Redhead Stepchild was briefly streamable through Támar Davis's mobile app in 2012. But several tracks — Closer 2 My Heart, Milk & Honey itself, Can't Keep Living Alone, Holy Ground, and First Love — remain officially unreleased to this day.
