Prince — Studio Nights: Demos & Outtakes 1976–1987
The Earliest Prince Recordings Ever Assembled — In One Collection
Studio Nights is one of the most historically significant Prince collector sets in existence. Spanning over a decade from his earliest pre-Warner Brothers recordings through to the Purple Rain era and beyond, this multi-disc collection documents Prince at his most raw and unguarded — working alone in a room, building the foundations of one of the most extraordinary careers in music history.
Why This Collection Is Extraordinary
The pre-Warner Brothers Boom Box Tapes on Disc One are among the rarest Prince recordings in circulation. Captured before his first album existed, before Owen Husney had secured the deal, before the world had any idea who Prince was — these are home recordings and early session tapes that include the earliest known versions of Wouldn't You Love To Love Me, For You, and Soft And Wet alongside a run of untitled instrumentals that reveal a teenage Prince finding his sound in real time.
Disc Two brings The Rebels — the short-lived band project that preceded Prince's solo debut — with eight tracks including You, Loving You, and Turn Me On, followed by the K-Funk Interview and rare standalone Prince recordings Baby Baby Baby and Nadeara.
Disc Three covers the Sound 80 studio demo sessions — Just As Long As We're Together, My Love Is Forever, We Can Work It Out, and Make It Through The Storm among them — capturing Prince in a professional studio environment for the first time and hearing how quickly his songwriting and arrangement instincts were developing.
Discs Four and Five move through instrumental sessions and rare 1980s demos including Tick Tick Bang, Turn It Up, D.M.S.R., Delirious, and Something In The Water Does Not Compute in early form.
Disc Six closes with Erotic City, the full Computer Blue / Darling Nikki sequence, and rare tracks from Brownmark and the Get On Up / U Gotta Shake Something period.
